We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join our growing Engineering Team. You will work with key technical team members across the organization to ensure that BenchSci's technical infrastructure and codebase will support long-term growth. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will provide technical leadership across several functional areas within the team, lead complex projects, participate in roadmap and project planning, and contribute to BenchSci's data engineering and architecture initiatives. The Staff Engineer will help foster the development of other individual contributors, while also playing an important role in helping us scale as we continue to improve scientific discovery.
You Will:
BenchSci is a remote-first organization. At this moment, we are welcoming applicants from Canada, the US and the UK for this position.
1. Application review
The hiring team will review your application and respond within ten business days.
2. Video screening
A member of BenchSci’s Talent Acquisition team will reach out to schedule a chat with you if your application
passes the review process.
The chat is a great opportunity to learn more about the role, the company, and what to expect during the
interview process. During this stage, we will aim to learn more about your past work experiences and interest
in BenchSci. At the end of the call, we’ll let you know what the next steps are and when you can expect to hear
back from us.
3. Technical screening
If you pass the video screening stage, you will receive a take-home technical challenge to be completed within
one week using HackerRank. For some positions, the technical screening may contain additional steps, take
place before the video screening, be conducted in a live real-time format, etc.
4. Interview and skills assessment stage
If you pass the coding challenge, you will be invited to an interview with the hiring manager and an additional
round of technical assessments.
The interview is a great opportunity to meet a BenchSci team leader and share your past experiences. There
will also be plenty of time for you to ask technical and team-related questions.
The goal of the skills assessment is to better understand your breadth of experience in your specific area of
technical expertise. There is generally some back-and-forth involved—just like on the job—and assessments
are closely related to the kind of work you’ll be doing in the role. Assessments are typically conducted via
Zoom and may come in various formats depending on the role for which you are being considered.
5. Final interview stage
This session typically consists of one to three 30-minute interviews with members of our Leadership team and
other relevant stakeholders across the organization, conducted via Zoom. The purpose of these final
discussions is to ensure any remaining questions you may have are answered and that any details about the
role, the expectations, and the company are discussed and clarified.
